Get your skates on! Telecom Prospect
2004 is thrilled to present Wellington artist Maddie
Leach's major exhibition project The Ice Rink and The
Lilac Ship in the Great
Hall at Massey University. This sculptural installation comprises
an 18 metre long, fully-functioning ice rink, accompanied
by a
video projection of a cruise ship drifting into Wellington harbour.
Leach's work reflects on the different ways communities
get together
to socialise and play. Audiences are invited to interact with
this work by donning a pair of the displayed skates and
skating
upon the rink, transforming the gallery space from white cube
to an active space for audience participation.
